This course will give you the statistical foundation you need to analyze data and derive conclusions from that analysis. Intensive instruction in both theoretical and applied parts of statistics is provided to the students, as well as exposure to fundamental ideas and techniques that foster a problem-solving mindset.

  • Module 1: Introduction to Research; Why is Research done?

    Aim of the module: How to narrow down a particular topic; Locate Prior research based on the topic to gather information

    Topics: Types of Research papers, Research topic selection, Introduction to Research; Why is Research done?, Types of Research papers

  • Module 2:Understanding an Outline of Research paper and Systematic Review of Literature

    Aim of the module: To learn to construct the outline of a paper and incorporate Review of Literature in your research paper

    Topics: How to find relevant scales on the variables, How to formulate a hypothesis and Purpose, Data Collection, Sampling Techniques, selection of title, conduction of systemic review of literature using relevant variables

  • Module 3: How to write an Abstract and Introduction

    Aim of the module: To make a powerful introduction

    Topics: Writing the introduction using writing tips, learning how to write the first draft, content of introduction, first, middle and last paragraph

  • Module 4: How to write Methodology

    Aim of the module: To learn about the type of data and corresponding analysis method, Plan and choose research methods, implementing, sampling techniques, using different methods of data collection

    Topics: Sampling techniques, using different methods of data collection, Qualitative and quantitative data, primary and secondary research data

  • Module 5: Statistical Analysis: Data management

    Aim of the module: To understand the types of data and methods used to analyse data and why they are used

    Topics: Data preparation, Using compatible data units, removing repeated and unwanted data, How to run your data and what these tests analyse, introduction to software like SPSS

  • Module 6: Statistical Analysis: Data analysis

    Aim of the module: Learn about data analysis, inferential and descriptive statistics

    Topics: Measures of central tendency, Correlation, Regression, t-test, factor analysis, content analysis  

  • Module 7: Data Interpretation

    Aim of the module: How to interpret the results obtained

    Topics: Testing hypothesis, interpreting data, tabulating results, writing discussion, references in summarising data, adding charts, visualising results

  • Module 8:Editing and Fine tuning

    Aim of the module: To create a clean and novel work with no copyright issues and lesser mistakes

    Topics: Plagiarism, Paraphrasing, APA and other formatting, How to add references and citations, tips on publication of the research (the process)
